Macy's plans to close 66 stores across the United States in 2025 as part of its strategy to shut down 150 locations by 2026. These closures will feature clearance sales with discounts up to 90% off.

The first major closure will be the Sunrise Mall location in Massapequa, New York, ending its 50-year run on April 11, 2025. This closure alone will impact 77 jobs, according to Department of Labor filings.

CEO Tony Spring stated these closures target underperforming stores to focus resources on more profitable locations. While downsizing traditional stores, Macy's plans to expand Bloomingdale's and Bluemercury, adding 15 and 30 new locations respectively.

The 50 already remodeled Macy's stores have shown improved sales performance. After all planned closures, Macy's will operate 350 locations, down from 1,100 in 2008.
