John Legend's Our Happy Company, which raised $7.5 million in seed funding in April 2022, has discontinued its flagship NFT platform OurSong. The platform, which operated from Singapore and Los Angeles, officially ceased operations on November 30th, 2024.

The shutdown was triggered by the termination of payment processing services provided by Circle. While the company initially framed this as a temporary suspension to transform its business model, multiple indicators suggest a more permanent closure:

  • Key executives and co-founders, including Kyle Wang (Chief Product Officer) and Terence Leong, have left the company
  • Support team responses confirm the company has "ceased all operations"
  • OurSong's automated system is now focused on providing withdrawal details for customers

OurSong has since pivoted its focus and is now associated with Song Protocol, a new venture co-founded by former Our Happy Company executive Terence Leong in January 2024. Song Protocol describes itself as "the world's first music-focused L3 blockchain" and aims to build a "new musiconomy for the AI era."

The platform's current offerings have expanded beyond NFTs to include pre-cleared beats and distribution services, marking a significant departure from its original business model.

This development adds to the growing list of casualties in the NFT sector, highlighting the volatile nature of blockchain-based music industry ventures, even those backed by high-profile artists and substantial funding.
