The anonymous Jane Doe had claimed she was sexually assaulted at an afterparty following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards when she was 13 years old. According to her account, a limousine driver lured her to the event where the alleged assault took place.
Key inconsistencies in the case included:
- Investigators couldn't locate the described property where the assault allegedly occurred
- Claims that musician Benji Madden was present, despite evidence he was touring in the Midwest at the time
- Other factual discrepancies that undermined the credibility of the allegations
Jay-Z vehemently denied the accusations through Roc Nation, stating: "The fictional tale they created was laughable, if not for the seriousness of the claims." He emphasized the trauma these false allegations caused his family while advocating for both victim protection and safeguards against false accusations.
Diddy's legal team welcomed the dismissal, stating it would be "the first of many that will not hold up in a court of law." However, Combs continues to face separate legal challenges, including federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges, with a trial scheduled for May. He currently remains in New York City jail awaiting these proceedings.
His attorneys maintain that "Sean Combs has never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone — man or woman, adult or minor. No number of lawsuits, sensationalized allegations, or media theatrics will change that reality."
