The film, titled "Hypnosis Mic: Division Rap Battle," takes place in a world where traditional weapons are banned and conflicts are resolved through rap battles. Director Tsujimoto Takanori and screenwriter Momose Yuichiro will bring this unique concept to life through Polygon Pictures.
What makes this release groundbreaking is its interactive format - audiences can influence the story's outcome through real-time smartphone polling during screenings. This makes it Japan's first truly interactive theatrical experience, where each showing could potentially have different winners and storylines.
The franchise, which launched in 2017, has already established itself through various media formats including music, radio dramas, manga, stage productions, games, and an animated TV series. The new film expands this universe while pioneering a new approach to audience engagement.
Theatrical release is scheduled for February 21, 2025, through Toho Next, with ticket pre-booking already underway. This innovative format represents a significant step forward in merging traditional cinema with interactive technology, potentially establishing new revenue models for the film industry.
