Serious doubts have emerged about the legitimacy of Fyre Festival 2, as local authorities in Isla Mujeres, Mexico deny any knowledge of the event.

Despite tickets going on sale this week ranging from $1,400 to $1.1 million, Edgar Gasca, representative from the tourism directorate of Isla Mujeres, confirms "We have no knowledge of this event, nor contact with any person or company about it. For us, this is an event that does not exist."

Billy McFarland, the convicted fraudster behind the original Fyre Festival disaster, recently told Today.com that the festival would take place in Isla Mujeres from May 30 – June 2, citing the location's existing infrastructure as a key factor. However, McFarland admitted no headliners have been secured.

Key red flags:

  • No permits have been requested from local authorities
  • Hotels listed as accommodation partners deny any involvement
  • Festival coordinates on the website point to the ocean between Cancún and Isla Mujeres
  • No contact has been made with the tourism minister of Quintana Roo
  • No headliners are confirmed despite ticket sales

While event producers Lostnights claim they're "working with local allies" and "corresponding authorities," Gasca firmly states: "This festival is not going to happen. There are red flags all over the place."

The situation bears striking similarities to the original Fyre Festival, which ended in disaster and led to McFarland's imprisonment for fraud. Local authorities strongly advise potential attendees to exercise extreme caution regarding ticket purchases.
