Born in 1911 in Mississippi, Johnson rose from poverty to become one of the most influential musicians in history. His guitar prowess and songwriting sparked the infamous myth that he sold his soul to the Devil, though the biopic will focus on his remarkable true story and lasting impact on music.

The film, written by "Black Girls Rock!" writer-producer Ridgeway Wilson, will chronicle Johnson's journey as an African American musician in the segregated South, showing how he transformed his challenging experiences into universally resonant music that influenced rock legends like The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, and Led Zeppelin.

Johnson's tragic death at age 27 preceded his posthumous debut at Carnegie Hall. In 1986, he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, recognized as arguably the first rock star. His grandson, Michael Johnson, emphasizes Robert's significance in defining the foundations of blues and rock n' roll, calling his story "significant to American history."

The production team includes:

  • Jesse Collins and Dionne Harmon (Jesse Collins Entertainment)
  • Sophia Dilley and Charles Hopkins (Concord)
  • Wesley Adams and Bob Valentine (Executive Producers, Concord Originals)

"Robert Johnson's impact on music culture is unmatched," stated CEO Jesse Collins and President Dionne Harmon of Jesse Collins Entertainment, expressing their enthusiasm for partnering with Concord Originals and The Robert Johnson Estate to bring this important story to life.
