Two major classical music biopics are currently in development, potentially signaling a new era for classical composer films.

Paris-based Playtime has acquired "Chopin, A Sonata in Paris" from Polish studio Akson Studio. The film follows Frédéric Chopin's journey to Paris at age 21, starring Eryk Kulm as Chopin and Lambert Wilson as King Louis Philippe. The biopic explores how the Polish composer revolutionized music in his new home.

Nicolas Brigaud-Robert, Playtime's co-CEO, praised both the historical significance of Chopin and the film's visual and narrative qualities. Galapagos Films will release the movie in Poland this year, with international distribution planned through Playtime.

Simultaneously, "Primavera," a Vivaldi biopic directed by opera director Damiano Michieletto, began filming in Rome in October. The 18th-century period piece, adapted from Tiziano Scarpa's novel "Stabat Mater," is produced by Indigo Film Production and co-produced by Warner Bros. Entertainment Italia. France's Moana Films will handle distribution in their territory.

These productions emerge as rock music biopics continue to flourish, with upcoming films about Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Janis Joplin. The success of these classical composer films could potentially spark a broader renaissance in classical music biopics for 2025 and beyond.
