Law enforcement had received prior intelligence about an armed man from Indiana, potentially suicidal, heading to D.C. Shortly after midnight, agents located his vehicle and approached him. The suspect drew a firearm, prompting officers to shoot. He was immediately transported to a hospital with his condition currently unknown.

President Trump was not at risk during the incident, as he was at his Florida residence. No Secret Service officers were injured in the confrontation.

This incident adds to a series of security breaches near the White House, including a 2016 shooting of an armed individual at a security gate and a 2023 attempted U-Haul crash into the complex.

The Metropolitan Police Department's Internal Affairs Division has taken charge of the investigation. The suspect's identity and motives remain undisclosed pending further investigation.
