Altice USA Faces Ongoing Warner Music Copyright Battle Despite BMG Settlement
Internet service provider Altice USA has resolved its copyright infringement lawsuit with BMG but remains embroiled in separate legal proceedings with Warner Music Group (WMG).

The ongoing WMG dispute stems from a December 2023 complaint filed by WMG, Sony Music Entertainment, and their subsidiaries. Similar to the settled BMG case, it alleges Altice failed to address repeat copyright infringement by subscribers.
A recent development involves a discovery dispute. The plaintiffs filed an August motion to compel Altice to produce discovery materials from the BMG case, noting that while Altice provided extensive documentation in the BMG lawsuit, they've only produced 1,408 documents in the current case over eight months.
Altice opposed the request, calling it "pure overreach" that would cause "needless distraction and expense." The court has scheduled a September 9th hearing on this discovery motion.
This case continues alongside other notable ISP copyright battles:
- Verizon faces a new infringement lawsuit filed in July
- Cox Communications is taking its infringement case to the Supreme Court
- Cox's case approaches its five-year anniversary of a significant jury verdict
